Tetsu kuro urushi nuri momo nari kawari-bachi 鉄黒漆 塗桃形変わり兜 ,Edo period

This is an authentic Edo period Momonari kabuto made traditionaly in Japan . This kind of kabuto is peach shaped with a smooth surface and traditionaly pointed in the midle of the hachi.

This kabuto was made with iron then laquered with black urushi japanese .The fukigaeshi are finely done and detailed and the tetsu go-dan shikoro is also in good state of preservation with original blue odoshi .

Many momonari kabuto are lacing in sugake ,here the technique used was the kebiki lacing ,a traditional complicated form of lacing .

This kabuto was exhibit at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria in Canada in 2010. Note also that a large wooden maedate is included with this kabuto .
