Etchu-men, Iwai school Sengoku-Jidai

This is an early menpo in the etchu ryu-style of the Iwai makers. The nose is not removable but riveted typical of the Azushi-Momoyama to early Edo period.

It was named etchu-bo after the daimyo Hosakawa Tadaoki .

The surface of the russet iron mask has fine yasurime lines, engraved in the iron hand-hammered traditionaly of the period.

A moustache has been applied in laquer kaki-hige and the interior of the menpo was black laquered,kokushitsu

.The shape of the ears is also typical with shape of this school. This etchu-men, ressei-men has 16 teeth ,iron cover silver ,8 upper and 8 lower mouth .

The tare was made in iron covered with nerikawa,leather laced in sugake technique and in blue odoshi lacing .

A rare and exelent menpo with kaki-hige, yasurime, kakushitsu.. in a good state of preservation considering age, ubu untouched piece ,Museum quality.
