Kabuto signed by master Munekatsu and dated 1861.

This kabuto is strong and made with iron forged by hand by one of the last masters before the 1870 Samurai ban.

This is a suji-kabuto with 38 ridged plates with strong, thick iron a kabuto made to protect against firearms at the end of the Bakumatsu period.

The Mabisashi is as often with the Myochin lineage shaped like a horse hook.

The tehen no kanamono or hachimanza is composed of 5 stages and multicolored .The kamon on fuKigaeshi, the shapes of the plates of the shikoro and the shape of the haraidate are typical. All these elements indicate that this was a kabuto commission for someone living on Japan's main island,Honshu-specifically in the Tohoku region-and associated withn the clan and later retainers of the famous Date Masamune.Perhaps it was an oder placed during the Sankin-kotai-the system of alternate attendance, when each Daimyo came to Edo .

The kabuto is signed Myochin Munekatsu and dated a lucky day of october 1861.An armorsmith famous for his exelent ribbed suji.

Almost certainly one of the last thick,forged-iron teppo ,firearm-resistant helmets from the era-capable of withstanding bullets-dating to the onset of Japan's begining final tumultuous period..

The general condition is good; very good state of preservation with its original hachi laquer in tetsu sabiji, some odoshi seems added but can be keep or change price accordingly..Shikoro is black lacquered with gilded kamon.

A true demonstration of the craftmanship of his workshop and its official armorer : on-katchu-kiwame-dokoro. A piece of history of Japan and its armorers.
